Tyler, the Creator wants his fans to stop requesting that he play Cherry Bomb.
A fan took to X on Monday morning to reveal that they were the one who started the Cherry Bomb chant at a Chromakopia World Tour stop. Tyler responded to the tweet, writing, “Chant all you want (i hope you dont, its mad annoying during the show) im not gonna play it, chanting doesnt make me magically wanna play it.”
A clip from a recent concert showed fans asking him to perform music from the 2015 album. “I genuinely don’t know the logic of why you think that chanting that is going to sway my decision. I don’t want to play that! And most of the crowd doesn’t want me to,” he told his audience in the video.
Regardless, Tyler also shared that his current tour “has been wonderful so far,” while thanking his fans.
Cherry Bomb appears to be one of his least favorite albums because it’s not as musically strong as the rest of his catalog. A few years ago, he told Jerrod Carmichael that Cherry Bomb was “hard to get into,” even with the A-list features, which include Ye, Lil Wayne, Pharrell, Schoolboy Q, and Roy Ayers.
He added, “I just knew if [Flower Boy] wasn’t good I would be fucked. Some people would disagree, but I was like, ‘Man, I’m nothing right now.’ ‘Cause everyone hated [Cherry Bomb], except for real music lovers who care about drums. I mean, I opened a rap album with a rock song. Most n***as is like, ‘Ugh!’”
