Virginia Giuffre, the woman who accused both Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew of sexual abuse, has died by suicide.
Western Australian Police Force media liaison officer Shelby Bradley revealed in a statement that emergency services found an unresponsive 41-year-old woman at her residence in Neergabby, Australia, on Friday (April 25). The woman was declared dead at the scene, with authorities indicating that her “death is not suspicious.”
Giuffre’s family released a statement confirming the deceased woman’s identity. “Giuffre lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking,” the statement reads. “Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that lifted so many survivors. Despite all the adversity she faced in her life, she shone so bright. She will be missed beyond measure. The lights of her life were her children Christian, Noah, and Emily.”
“It was when she held her newborn daughter in her arms that Virginia realized she had to fight back against those who had abused her and so many others,” the statement continued. “There are no words that can express the grave loss we feel today with the passing of our sweet Virginia. She was heroic and will always be remembered for her incredible courage and loving spirit. In the end, the toll of abuse is so heavy that it became unbearable for Virginia to handle its weight. We know that she is with the angels.”
Giuffre, a mother of three, was an extremely vocal accuser of Jeffrey Epstein. In 2019, she claimed that Epstein trafficked her and forced her to have sex with his associates, including Prince Andrew. Andrew has repeatedly denied these claims.
“I have no recollection of ever meeting this lady, none whatsoever… I can absolutely, categorically tell you it never happened,” he told the BBC in 2019.
Giuffre sued Andrew for sexual assault in 2021. They reached an out-of-court settlement the following year.
Epstein was set to face trial on sex trafficking charges when he died by suicide in 2019.
In 2019, Giuffre posted a message on X (then Twitter) declaring that she wouldn’t take her life. “I am making it publicly known that in no way, shape or form am I suicidal,” she wrote. “I have made this known to my therapist and GP- If something happens to me- in the sake of my family do not let this go away and help me to protect them. Too many evil people want to see me quieted.”
Earlier this year, however, Giuffre opened up about having a rough few months to start 2025. She said she had severe medical problems as a result of an accident where her car was hit by a school bus.
“I’ve gone into kidney renal failure, they’ve given me four days to live, transferring me to a specialist hospital in urology,” she wrote on Instagram late last month. “I’m ready to go, just not until I see my babies one last time, but you know what they say about wishes.”
